This project is about being heard. It is about politics at retail. That is, it is not as much about politicians or ideology as it is about the way individual citizens involve themselves in the civic processes that affect their lives. Much of this is talk: face-to-face in informal discussions, somewhat less personally at lectures, debates, and meetings, and with rhetorical fervor at rallies. Civics is about how people communicate their ideals as well as their interests. It is about how the organs of government respond to them, and what they themselves do to benefit the communities in which they live. And, as an extension of that, it is also about the way they confront the symbols, and participate in the ceremonies, that define American democracy.

Project status: Civics is a work in progress.
